14th CONVOCATION OF KAHER, Belagavi – 27th MAY 2024

Hon’ble Vice-President, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar felicitated the gold medalists at 14th Convocation Ceremony of KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research in Belagavi, Karnataka today.

 Belagavi, 27th May 2024: The 14th Convocation of the KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research (KAHER), Deemed-to-be-University, Belagavi, Karnataka was conducted on Monday, the 27th May 2024 at KLE Centenary Convention Centre, JNMC Campus, Belagavi, Karnataka.

The convocation ceremony and procession began at 11.30 AM when the Chief Guest Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Hon. Vice-President of India along with  Guests of Honour viz. Shri Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Hon. Governor of Karnataka Chancellor, Hon. Chancellor Dr. Prabhakar Kore, Dr. (Smt.) Sudesh Jagdeep Dhankar,  Vice-Chancellor Dr. Nitin M.Gangane, Registrar Dr.M.S.Ganachari, Members of the Board of Management of the KLE Society and KAHER, Academic Council, Deans of Faculties, HoDs and other distinguished members, entered Dr. B.S.Jirge Auditorium with the Controller of Examinations Dr. Chandra S. Metgud carrying the ceremonial mace.

Chief Guest Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Hon. Vice-President of India delivered the convocation address.  Exhorting the students to always keep the nation first, he urged them not to be guided by fiscal considerations while serving humanity at large. “Fiscal considerations have to take a back stage. Service has to be your primary motto,” he told them. Referring to our millennia old civilization, Hon. Shri Dhankhar said that no other country can rival our civilization ethos. “At the present, Bharat is the fastest developing major economy on the globe. Our march is sustainable and for the welfare  of the entire humanity,” he underlined.  In the memory of the 14th Convocation,   Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Hon. Vice-President and Dr. Smt. Sudesh Dhankhar planted a sapling in the JNMC campus

Addressing the graduating students, Vice-President observed that their high academic qualifications would be an asset to the country and make them an integral part of India’s development story. Urging the students to catalyse big change for a Viksit Bharat @ 2047, he asked them to ensure that India regains its past glory and becomes the most developed Nation of the world by the year 2047. The Vice President advised the students not to fear failure and keep working for the betterment of the society. He reaffirmed Swami Vivekananda’s quote ‘Arise, Awake and Stop not till the goal is reached’.

Dr. Nitin M. Gangane, Vice-Chancellor, KAHER welcomed the Chief Guest strong>Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Hon. Vice-President of India, Dr. (Smt.) Sudesh Dhankhar and the Guest of Honour Shri Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Hon. Governor of Karnataka. He outlined the achievements of the University for the year 2023-24. He also informed that the KAHER, Belagavi, within a short span of 18 years, has earned national and international recognition in the field of health sciences education and research.

The KAHER, Belagavi, for the first time, awarded Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) (Honoris Causa) to Dr. Richard Derman, Vice-Provost, Global Affairs, Director of Global Health Research & Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, USA in recognition and appreciation of his significant contribution for overall global health initiatives including collaborative research, educational exchanges and clinical initiation and also for his long-standing research collaboration with KAHER, Belagavi, particularly on maternal and new-born health. In his acceptance speech, Dr. Richard Derman thanked faculty and researchers of KAHER who worked with him for 23 years and said he was humbled to be the first recipient of D.Sc. Honoris Causa.  He also said that many faculty and students are benefitting with mutual academic and research exchange program between KAHER, Belagavi and Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, USA under the guidance of Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor, KAHER, Belagavi.

Dr. Prabhakar Kore, Hon. Chancellor of the KAHER, Deemed University and  Chairman, KLE Society presided over the function.

Staff, Students and their parents from all over the country and abroad participated in this Convocation. A total of 1739 Degrees were awarded in various disciplines of Health Science, including 39 Gold Medals for their academic achievements in their respective courses / specialties; the degrees included 30 PhDs., 13 Post-doctoral (DM/M.Ch.), 644 Post-Graduates, 1023 Under-Graduates, 9 Post-Graduate Diplomas, 4 Diplomas, 5 Fellowship and 11 Certificate Courses.

The Principals, Vice-Principals, Faculty Members, Staff and Students of the KAHER, Belagavi and its constituent units were present. The Convocation ceremony was attended by the host of eminent personalities from the country, whose attendance made the ceremony a grand success.  The Convocation began with the anthem of the KAHER, Belagavi and concluded with the national anthem by the Police band and KLE School of Music.
