Music Courses
Preamble
Music is an integral part of rich Indian heritage and has come a long way since Vedic times with a strong cultural and ancient history. It is perhaps the greatest force that unites humanity the world over. In today’s world which is full of conflicts and tensions, it is the music which is playing a significant role towards inner peace and harmony, transgressing man made frontiers and carrying the message of peace and brotherhood. Music is also known to be a great healer and has direct and indirect influence on physical and mental health of an individual. Of late music therapy is being used as an adjunct to medical line of therapy. All different forms of Indian classical music (Ragas) are believed to affect various “Chakras” (Energy centres) in the path of the Kundalini. In the modern corporate world the significance of music in relieving stress and fatigue, besides making value addition to one’s personality development cannot be overemphasized.
About Music Courses
The establishment of KLE University’s School of Music was conceived with the clear vision of creating additional facility for the staff and students in the campus for the most beautiful ‘gift of god’ i.e. Music which is independent of the barriers of language and transcends borders.
On 12th March 2006, living legend Doyen of Kirana Gharana Padmavibhushan Dr. Gangubai Hangal was invited on the auspicious occasion of her 94th birthday celebrations and on that day “SWARA SARASWATI ABHINDAN.PARVA” was conferred on her. In her speech, Dr Gangubai Hangal regretted that “the taste for classical music is diminishing and in future it would lose its Granger”. She was also aspirant of having Music Department in KLE University Belgaum. Our Hon. Chancellor Dr. Prabhakar Kore had assured her that Classical Music is a cradle which would be rocked continuously by legendary personalities one by one. It should not stop, our Hon. Chancellor has kept his worlds and made Dr. Gangubai Hangal’s dream came true by starting School of Music at KLE University just within two years, after her visit to Belgaum.
The School of Music was inaugurated on 12th April 2008 by a renowned Indian Classical Music Vocalist of National and International repute, Padmavibhushan Dr. Gangubhai Hangal, the doyen of Kirana Gharana in the presence of Mr. Rupiah Banda, His Excellency, Vice-President of Republic of Zambia.
