Womens’ Cell

University  Cell for Women :

KAHER has a vibrant and vigilant Women empowerment cell. It’s motto is sensitization of  staff and students  on abuse , legal rights, cyber laws, domestic violence, digital banking. It has also extended health care initiatives such as screening camps on breast cancer, cervical cancer, hepatitis vaccination etc. A decade long exclusive and exhaustive awareness program on ‘Adolescent education ’for children for the age group of 12- 15 is one of the notable highlights of the cell.An app that facilitates and provides a forum for donors and the recipients has also been a key initiative. Celebrated pan India women achievers are invited for pep talks to name a few are Sampat Pal, leader of ‘Gulabi Gang’, Padma Shri ‘SaaluMaradaTimmakka” , an environmentalist and Mata Manjamma Jogathi, Padmashri awardee, first transwoman who is the president of Karnataka Janapada academy. The Institution Grievances Redressal and Internal Complaints Committee framed according to UGC falls within the ambit of this cell. A unique initiative is segregation and treatment of  organic waste (kitchen, gardens) using vermicompost units setup on the campus which can then be used as manure for the vast green that spans the 100 acre campus. Deepotsav, a gala event organized by the cell is a cultural extravaganza for all teaching and non-teaching staff along with rangoli competitions, Diya decorating competitions, ruffles and tassels which provide platform for cultural and linguistic conglomeration.

Covid 19 was an exceptional challenge where in  the cell undertook the running and maintenance of an isolation center as well as upheld the motto of vocal for local for the benefit of vast number of local MSMEs’ amidst the economic crisis created by the pandemic

Gender Equity :-  KAHER has championed the cause of gender equity in a wide array of programs and activities dedicated exclusive for women betterment.

  • A hallmark at KAHER is the holistic inclusion of women at all levels beginning from the student fraternity to the different levels of employee hierarchy, that is from non teaching hands such as battery car operators to the highest level of administrative heads such as deans and principals.
  • Gender awareness is endorsed and reinforced through prescribed syllabi and curricula, as well as through value added courses such as ‘Respectful maternity care’, ‘National guidelines on infant and young child feeding’, Helping babies Breathe’ etc.
  • All the NSS units of the constituent units of KAHER promote gender equity amongst the society at large through radio talks, skits on female feticide and PCPNDT act as well as under the Union government’s flagship initiative of “BetiBachaoBetiPadhao”.
